I was searching for some good books to read and got this- “the mother I never knew”. Without having a second thought,I chose this book as the cover and the title reminded me of my mother. The mother I never knew is a set of two novella penned by Mrs.Sudha Murthy. The theme of the novella is a journey to the past by two men named Venkitesh and Mukesh who are not linked to each other. Both of them are searching their mother they never knew they had. This book explores the complex human emotions and empathises us with the prime mover’s agony.

This book was written by Mitch Albom, the author of the international bestsellers The Five People You Meet in Heaven and For One More Day as well as eight other books. This book goes through the intense relationship between Mitch Albom and his old Professor, Morrie Schwartz.
Maybe it was a grandparent, a teacher or a colleague. Someone older, patient and wise, who understood you when you were young and impassioned, helped you to see the world as a more profound place, and gave you sound advice to guide your way through it. For Mitch Albom, it was Morrie Schwartz, the college professor who had taught him nearly twenty years before. Perhaps, like Mitch you lost track of this mentor as the years passed, the insight faded and the world seemed colder. Wouldn’t you like to see that person again, to ask bigger questions that still haunt you, and receive wisdom for your busy life the way you once did when you were younger? Mitch Albom got that second chance, rediscovering Morrie in the last months of the older man’s life. Their rekindled relationship turned into one final ‘class’: Lessons on how to live. Tuesdays with Morrie is a magical chronicle of their time together.
The book narrates some incidents that took place 20 years ago in Morrie’s and Albom’s life. Morrie was a professor of sociology at Brandeis University; he dedicated his life to the study of individuals’ actions in their respective societies and together he and Mitch Albom wrote his final paper: a study of his life in his society. Morrie had a profound impact on Albom while he was a student. Later Morrie was diagnosed of ALS – or Lou Gehrig’s disease. The book talks about the journey that Morrie had to take towards his death and how this affects Mitch. I could notice that, Morrie wanted to die slowly, so that he gets enough time to correct the one he wanted to get corrected. It quiet interesting to see you get weaker day by day and get decay. In fact Morrie was coming in immediate terms to his mortality. After his graduation, Mitch lost his connection with Morrie. Sixteen years after graduation Mitch is feeling frustrated with the life he has chosen to live. One day Mitch is stunned to see his old professor on TV. This makes him to travel to Massachusetts to visit with him. After spending his time with Morrie, Mitch recognises more meaning in his life. Following their first Tuesday together, Mitch returns regularly every Tuesday to listen to Morrie’s lessons on “The Meaning of Life.” The underlying message of this book is how we need to look out for each other and show each other more love and compassion.
The Tuesday lessons of life were not just for Albom, but it had been written for all of us. It was the precious gift from Morrie before he died. Though Morrie had died his spirit and the teaching goes on….
